Numerous employees of public housing in New York City are confronting allegations of bribery and extortion following the Justice Department’s record number of arrests last week. As reported by The New York Times, federal prosecutors in Manhattan have indicted 70 current and former staff members of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) for allegedly accepting cash bribes from contractors in return for contracts with the Housing Authority.
