Sometimes it happens that an apparently healthy orchid, due to insufficient care or the influence of diseases and pests, loses its root system and most of its leaves. However, even in such a situation, the plant can be reborn and have a new lease on life. The process of restoring an orchid that has lost its roots is simple and relatively quick. In just one month, without the use of additional fertilizers or specific products, it is possible to grow a new healthy root system even from a single living leaf.
Preparing for Revival
First steps
- Cut off a healthy orchid leaf and clean the stem, removing rotten areas.
- Rinse the sheet under running water and gently pat dry with a soft towel.
Making a nutrient solution
The nutrient solution is prepared in 2 stages:
- Pour 500 ml of warm water over the rice and let it rest.
- Separately, pour 500 ml of boiling water over the skin of an onion, cover and leave to cool.
- Strain the onion peel infusion and mix it with rice water.

Treat the clean orchid leaf with the resulting nutrient solution using a cotton ball.
Place the leaf bud in the solution for 25 minutes.
This stage will help protect the plant from pathogens and insects, as well as provide the nutrients needed for the roots to begin to form.
Recovery phase
After treatment with the nutrient solution, place the orchid in a cool place for a day.
For further restoration, you’ll need a simple design: Place a cotton ball on the lid of a plastic cup.
Place this structure in a larger container and place an orchid leaf on top of a cotton ball.
Pour water into the container so that it lightly touches the cotton, thus ensuring that the necessary moisture reaches the plant.
